This ensemble of works could give the impression of a sudden change; in reality, its only the persistence of a behaviour of continuous experimentation with the risks of going wrong, but also with the joy of adventure and developing, always bases on pre-establish parameters, some of the multiple possibilities of every ways.
Thus, this explains logically the diversity of my production. This diversity is for me fundamental. It’s answered to an attitude of research.
Of all the different aspect of my research, there is always something not closed, open, which demands a further development; The different aspects are like paths: sometimes independent, sometimes crossing each others, sometimes parallel, sometimes they lead to smaller tracks or to others paths.
Therefore each new ensemble has its roots in what I’ve already done.
It’s the case of the actual ensemble which is linked to the spirit of the first relief of 1960’s and especially some of the works of the series of 14 colours from the 70’s I called “virtual volume”.
The present works are not virtual. They are indeed real and with the contending aspect of inox steel, this material with its satin surface can prorogue multiple changes with a special way to catch the light.
If I take away “virtual” from “virtual volume”, “volume” stays.
Volume could be linked to the idea of traditional sculptures which catch the eyes with their plain shapes. The works are drawing a volume in a space pierced by the eyes; it’s like a volume in dots and multiple dots are added from the inside which delimited a changing space from the outside and from the inside.
Like in all my production, each piece of work has a theme; its never improvisation, or caprice (I can afford in the first step before ideas are taking shapes). Each work answered to a very simple regulations, to a pattern which set the ensemble.
Most works²are organized through sequences, which can be of displacements, of rotations, of levels, of sizes, of angles, of curves of positions in space etc…
The conception part, with its rationality, allowed a blossoming or an emergence of visual situations which can go from the simple recognition of the system to an impression of chaos.
